Good evening! I write this blog from my bed. It's actually my second time writing this blog. I got about half way done and I accidentally deleted it all... So this sucks. But Ill try my best to write it again... This is actually the first time I will be able to go to bed before 1230pm since I've gotten to the island! Yes I could be studying right now, yes I have lots I should be studying right now, but I figured recharging before tomorrow was the smarter thing to do. The one saving grace for me is that next week we have a bit of a break. One class we normally have for 3h a day is not running. Even though its only one class, the extra 3 hours a day worth of study time will be huge!! Its not that I haven't been studying this weekend, its just that I don't feel I accomplished as much as I normally do. So ill be in overdrive this coming week. Blocks are only two weeks away!
This weekend was a good one. Friday night a few of us went to a friends house to hang out for a few hours. It was a great to be able to share some laughs after a hard few weeks. The original plan was to head to the strip for a drink, so we made our way there at around 1130. Ironically we started out our night at a place called "vibes" which really wasn't giving off good vibes like it was during orientation. A few weeks back this was the bar that all the students went too. When we got there is was filled with a bunch of locals who were obviously happy to have their bar back. Its not that it was unsafe to be there, it just wasn't that much fun being the only non-kittitians... We made our way down the beach to another bar where there were actually quite a few other students. I guess that we all had the same Idea. It was a great night. We all headed back home a few hours later. To be honest it will likely be the last true outing until the end of blocks. Things start to get a little hectic around here. Saturday I spent most of the day studying. At around 8pm I had enough so me and my roommate decided to go see a movie. There is one movie theatre that I know of on St. Kitts and it so happens to be within walking distance. I was a little surprised it was open since it was SK independence day, but It was full of people looking to see a movie as well. The theatre is quite new and just like a typical movie theatre back at home. Prices aren't bad either. I paid 17 EC about 7$ US. On Tuesdays its about 5$ US. I guess Tuesdays is international cheap movie night.. There is also a pizza and frozen yogurt place attached to the theatre and you are allowed to bring that food into the movie with you. You know the commercials that play before the movies? Well in SK for every movie trailer they also play an advertisement for SK that is filmed just like a movie trailer. They put so much effort into these things its crazy. Obviously not Hollywood ready, but a good effort:P They all made me chuckle. The cool part was on the walk home. It was a quiet stretch of road when I heard a bird or animal fly by me so I turned to see where it went and saw this!

If you're like me you are probably wondering what those are. Those white dots are all birds! There were literally hundreds! That was just two trees. There were about 4 or 5 other trees filled with birds that didn't make it into the picture. It must be where they all go at night. If you are someone who is scared of birds, this would be like a nightmare. They would all wiggle and sway in the tree as you walked by. In the morning I look it up and they are actually Egrets. Funny little white bird you see everywhere in SK. Today we cleaned up the house and did some shopping. I also went to the bank for they first time since getting here. I will explain the banking situation shortly. Don't really feel to interested in writing about money right now:P Thats about all that happened today. My roommate and I did decide however that next weekend we will take a study break to go find places to snorkel and swim close to our house. There is too much water in from of us that needs to be explored. I just need to look up some rip current risk advisories and Ill be good to go:) Don't feel like getting taken a mile out to see. Instead of spending my whole day trying to swim to shore I could be studying. haha.. Well honestly I had more profound things to talk about in the blog other then a bunch of birds in a tree, but I feel like sleeping (youtube) so Ill make another blog about that stuff soon:)
Things I learned this weekend
-There are monkeys in my yard!! I didn't see them but my roommate did. I'm one step closer to having a pet monkey.
-The little lizards Ive been seeing (like the florida ones) are not the only lizards that live here.. They get big
-If I want to climb the mountain in-front of my house I need to tell the police station I'm going to climb it so they can send a search party to look for me when I don't come home. They also have the map that I need:)
-The first time that I wanted to have a hot shower since getting here I was met with the realization that there is only about 20 seconds worth of hot water. So cool showers it is:)
-When the wifi at my house AND my school is super slow, I feel lonely and sad
Thats all for now.
Cheers,
Mike
