Good evening!
Wishing all the Americans out there a Happy Thanksgiving today! Must say, there was a little bit more going on around here compared to a few week ago during the Canadian thanksgiving and Its nice to see. The purpose of this post is to give a quick rundown of the week so far. Its going to be a short one though.
Today, the school put on a little thanksgiving meal for those who weren't quite interested in making a whole turkey dinner themselves. For just under 30 EC you were able to get a decent meal. It was served at lunch time. They even set up a few little thanksgiving things where people were eating. People said the food was okay, but not obviously up to the standard of a home cooked meal:) I passed on the opportunity. Instead I made myself a sandwich... I've also been seeing few groups of people who got together for a little feast this evening. All I can say I that I'm looking forward to a turkey dinner in a few weeks time.. Aside from that, today was a study day. We did out last bell ringer in Anatomy lab and finished up all the new material for this block in all our classes. Tomorrow is mostly review for blocks on Monday. So the studying is going to go into overdrive now. Unfortunately. Once we cross this next hurdle on Monday, we only have finals to worry about. To be honest, finals are going to seem easy compared to blocks. One exam a day? EASY! I had 5 exams last block day.. Today we also got a rundown of the NBME protocols for finals. The NBME is an exam type that we are taking for anatomy this semester. I will talk about this soon enough. The protocol seems rather intense, so it should be an interesting time..
Yesterday we had an interviewing prof come give us a test lecture. He is in the running for a job next semester and part of his application is to teach us a preview lecture. It is really cool that the school wants our feedback and actually listens to what we have to say. After the lecture we were given access to an online survey where we rate the lecture and the prof, and give our suggestions. So who knows! Maybe next semester he will be helping out in some of the new students classes. We've been told he is likely to help out in the Clinical labs and the ARP programs if he gets the job. Either way, it was nice to be involved in the process.
So that's all for now, but I will let you know if anything cool happens this weekend. I can pretty much say that nothing will. but you never know.
Things I learned this week
-When you take money out of an ATM, the majority is given out in hundreds. When you try to buy something at school for 6 EC with a 100$ bill some of the cashiers aren't too happy. I try to break it elsewhere, but time does not always allow for it.
-A very scary moment is when you think you lost your computer charger. It literally is your lifeline here. Avoid at all costs.
-Don't go to the grocery store on a Tuesday apparently. They don't really have anything you are looking for.
-I asked the bubble tea lady who cells buddle tea out front of the school if she will ever get Banana flavor. She said she will next semester! I might have to start drinking bubble tea now.
Good vibes everyone!
Cheers,
Mike
