Good evening everyone!
So today is Friday, one of the best days of the week. While some people take Fridays off, I use it as a time to slow down a bit. Don't get stressed, use the time to get something done. It doesn't have to be a lot, but I feel too guilty if I don't do anything. Especially a week before blocks!
The time is already flying by. Block one is here! Next week we start reviewing material! I think I am in a decent place going into the week. I think after this weekend, I'll be in good shape. This last week has been interesting. We have a visiting professor in our Neuroscience class who is a super smart guy and an accomplished neuroscientist. He's published one of the more popular neuroscience textbooks that we use. The only issue with this is that he is teaching to a level that we are not yet at.. For some people this is the first Neurology class they have ever taken, and we started two weeks ago.. Its also a bummer that he has been teaching us some of the most important material we will need to know for the rest of the semester. All the Ascending and Descending tracts of the spinal cord into the brainstem and cortex, as well as the peripheral nervous system. So its safe to say that last week was fairly stagnant in the material we were learning, as most people were just trying to understand the words coming out of his mouth. For me, and most people, we were left trying to teach ourselves these pathways. I got a basic understanding down, but was feeling a little anxious as blocks are getting close. I think finally after going to a TA review and countless hours of self study, I am finally getting them. My studying has been pretty Neuro heavy so some of my other courses have to get a little bit of loving this weekend. All classes are still good. We had a Micro and Path quiz last week, both of which went pretty decently. Just have to keep up with everything.
Another exciting thing to mention is that I got a job! Sort of anyways. I was accepted into the Ambassador program at our University. So essentially they pay me to talk with a variety of students at different stages of admission. Some students who are just looking into the school all the way up to students who have been accepted and are looking to get some guidance. So One or twice a week for a few hours I do that. Its exciting and I like talking to people about this stuff. Its sort of why I started the blog! It also so happens to be the highest hourly rate I've ever been paid for a job! I just hope I can balance things throughout this semester, especially since SGA continues to take up some time. We have elections next week for some new members, so Im looking forward to that.
This weekend I don't have too much planned aside form studying. Maybe a movie, well have to see how tomorrow goes. We really don't have super exciting lives.. You would like to think you can do fun things while living on a Caribbean island, but it just doesn't happen. That is one reason why I am looking forward to my next break. I have decided to stay on the island! It will be my last break before leaving St. Kitts, and there is too much left to explore. I would feel super bummed if I left the island after living here for over a year with nothing to say except that I spent it all at school and sleeping.
That all I have to say for now! Thanks for tuning in as always.
Things I've Learned
-I have a good patellar Reflex
-Everyone at home is starting to complain about the heat because its been reaching 30 degrees. (Now you know what I live with every single day)
-The grocery story that I go to is getting to be much more awesome due to the renovations they're doing.
-Starfruit is pretty tasty!
-You are supposed to eat the whole starfruit. Don't peel it.
-I want to buy coconuts but I have no way of opening them
-Im getting confused when I think of road traffic rules. Since the driving is opposite, before I could just think of what is the most abnormal thing to do, and I know to do the opposite. Now, both sides of the road feel normal. My method doesn't work..
-I now find that most people say "Okay Okay" for everything. Like when you walk down the street and say hi too someone, their response is "Okay Okay" (In an island tone).
-Its illegal to walk around with a Machete without it in its sleeve. People Don't care about that law
Cheers,
Mike
