Good evening everyone:)
Another week down and not very many to go. We officially have under a month left in the semester and we are all very much looking forward to the day we finish. I find for some people the idea of finishing scares them too much to be excited:P Exams can be fairly stressful especially when you think we have less then a month and still have to finish two rounds of exams.
As this weekend comes to a close, we enter into block week. One more week to cram just a bit more info in there. I think most people are decently comfortable with where they stand right now. Anatomy has been winding down a little bit and we only have three more cell bio lectures to go for this block. So if we all stay on top of everything we should be good. Last week in anatomy lab we pretty much finished all the dissections for the semester. Too my disappointment we were told that we aren't dissecting the inner ear. I find the ear super cool so me and a buddy are going to go to the lab during lunch one day next week and dissect it anyways. We got the go ahead so it is all good. This week we have another bell ringer and two more mock practical exams. I've found the head and neck (which is what we did this block) my favorite out of all the dissections. I find pretty much everything we have dissected the last three weeks super interesting and relevant. The fact that its a smaller area of the body also means we have the luxury of moving a little bit slower. Tomorrow we finish our last practical PD class and are all finished with the course until exams. Cell bio is all the same. Histology as well. Just have to stay focused for a few more days, rest for a night after block Monday, then get right back to studying for exams. I think about all the material we have learned and how we have to know it all for the final exams, but the level at which we have been studying it throughout the semester makes me think its not going to be all that bad. Fingers crossed anyways.
This week outside of class I didn't do a whole lot. This Friday a group of us went to see the hunger games which was nice. The movie was pretty good I must say. I did however see that the theatre already decorated for Christmas as we were all greeted by a large Christmas tree as soon as we walked in the doors. Aside from that I have yet to see too much Christmas sprit around here. To be honest though, even if the whole island was decorated I haven't been far enough from school / home to even notice. I'm sure the radio stations are already playing Christmas music at home. All I can say is that I'm looking forward to going back to the Canadian winter cold! The last few nights have been really refreshing as the temperature has dropped to about 26 degrees C! A few degrees makes all the difference:) I'm not too confident that there will be much snow when I get home, but I hope we will have a white Christmas in the end. It would be a bummer to go a whole year without any snow what so ever.
Anyways, the rest of my weekend was spent studying. Studied until 8 yesterday night then went to watch the Cotto VS Canelo fight at the Royal. Today I spent 6 hours doing a set of 200 anatomy questions.. I actually enjoyed the change in study approach. PowerPoint slides were getting tiring. Afterward me and a few others walked to a nearby ice cream place and then all headed back home to study. The past little while I've been working on an Ethics paper that is due at the end of next week. It is really pretty simple, but I've been finding it hard to put too much effort into the class. I should get it one by tomorrow. That's it for now. Ill update you guys going into blocks!
Things learned this week
-If I try to learn anything on a Friday night I can pretty much guarantee it will be a waste of time. By the end of the week I am absolutely done.
-Some monkeys don't give a damn. There was a monkey who was crossing the street by my house and didn't notice me right away. I was walking down the street and when he saw me I thought he would run, but instead he stopped and walked the rest of the way. He was about 4 feet away watching me the whole time as he strolled on by.
-Brains are heavier then one might think
-I miss driving
* sorry I didn't have a whole lot of extra time to learn things this week
Cheers,
Mike
