I can't really say Ive been excited to start school too many years in my life.. But this is certainly one of them. Tomorrow morning starting at 8am I will officially be starting the academic portion of this journey. It is very exciting and I can't wait to see what it will be like. I understand completely that its going to be very tough but I know its going to be alright as the material I'm learning is exactly what I want to be learning.
Recap of the last two days,
Yesterday was the Presidential Beach Bash. It was the first time I have been to a beach on St. Kitts. Actually it was the first time I have ever even touched that water! The beach we went to was at the very southern most tip of St. Kitts closest to Nevis. From the Beach, Nevis was about 2 miles away. It was a very nice beach, but the best part honestly was the drive to get there. The views were breathtaking. I look forwards to being able to drive there myself one day. The roads are super steep as they wind up and around mountains. You get views of both the Atlantic and the Caribbean sea along the way. The beach we went to was one of many on the island. Specifically, where we swam was called Cockleshell bay which is next to Banana bay (you got that right Kyle Ball). The water was very very warm, almost warm enough to not even cool you off! That being said, it was a great day. We got there around 1230 and left at 6. For most of us it will be the last day of true fun in the sun until we break for Christmas. Or so Ive been told.. After the beach I was pretty content with staying in for the night. It was going to be the first night that I hadn't done anything since I got here, but in the end a group of us went to the Marriott Casino where there is a pretty nice Bar. It ended up being a really good time as a few others students had the same idea. I learned to Salsa (sort of) and got to listen to Danza Kuduro a few too many times. We broke off from the remaining students and headed back home. We got a ride from a friend who had just bough a car on the island so I got a few tips from him on the process.
This morning I was planning on climbing the mountains in front of my house, but that was my plan when I thought I was going to be staying in for the night. So instead I slept in. I had lots of time to do it today, but if you don't do these things early in the morning it gets way to hot to even imagine climbing a mountain.. So lets hope I can make that happen in the near future. In the afternoon I headed to school and got some of the lectures for the semester downloaded onto my computer so I have them all ready to go for tomorrow. I also made a trip to the grocery store. My biggest accomplishment for the day would probably be making a weeks worth of food. Not sure I will do that all the time, but Ill give it a try and see if I appreciate it enough during the week to make me want to do it again. Im off to do a bit of review and then to bed! Big day tomorrow.
Things I learned today
-Taking grocery bags on the H-bus is annoying.. I think the 20 min walk will be worth it next time.
-Not having a skin tone of "Canadian White" is nice. Even if its currently "Sunburnt Red"
-I don't have enough space on Dropbox for my lectures..
-Doing laundry and hanging it throughout the kitchen to dry is annoying when trying to cook a week worth of food.
Is all for now!
Good vibes;) Cheers,
Mike
