Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday:)
So this post marks the beginning of semester 2 on the beautiful island of St. Kitts! I had mixed feelings leaving home, but I'm feeling good about being back. I was getting anxious to start if you could believe it... I left Ottawa and arrived in SK around 3pm yesterday. The trip was pretty easy in the end. I met a few friends from my semester in Miami and we all boarded for our final flight to SK. When I landed, I immediately remembered the heat that I left behind just a few weeks ago. Getting through customs was easy with my student Visa and I was on my way. Got a ride home, was greeted by Tyson my roommate who arrived a few hours before me, and started to unpack! It felt like home. Like I never left really. Last night consisted of me heading to the strip to meet some of the new students. It was raining a bit which was a bummer, but it cleared up a little later in the evening. We started the night off at the Shiggity Shack where most of the students were meeting! I got to talk with a few profs who were there, got the low down on the changes from last semester, and got to meet a few of the students! The class size is very small compared to my semester which was one of the largest in the school's history. I think in total there are just over 50 students between MED, EBS, and ARP. Not even half of what we had. Not all the students were there, but I got to meet a few. Its nice to see some new eager faces :) Most of the night was spend hanging out on the strip, but we ended the night at a super late 1130pm at the Marriott. Most of the returning students hadn't gotten to the island by that point, so everything was very quiet. we decided that sleep was more important that sitting alone at a bar.
This morning I slept in a tad, then headed over to school for registration. My appointment was at 11am and I was through in about 10 minutes. I spent some time on campus catching up with people, snuck in a free lunch with the new students, then headed home. Today Me and Tyson went to Shipwreck beach for some snorkelling! I heard that it was a good spot, so we decided to check it out. I found that there was a bit more sealife at Shipwreck, but not much to see aside from that. I much prefer the spot near the school. It feels a little more rugged and natural. It was a nice way to spend the day however. Got a bit of sun and ocean in. After that I did my first grocery run of the semester, ate some food and am now getting ready to head out for the night. There are more of us on the island tonight, so I think the plan will be to head to the strip and meet up with some other folks. As for the rest of the weekend, it should be pretty fun. I have a few adventures planned, so Ill let you guys know how it goes in a day or two!
So this is my life up until this point. I am excited but nervous to start MED 2. I know it is going to be a lot busier and quite a bit more challenging, so I will really have to buckle down. I think most of my friends are feeling the same way, so we will get to trudge through it together. Should be a good time!
Things I learned
-Get to know some of the new students and you might find yourself getting a seat on their Catamaran trip:) Since this semester is a small class, instead of the beach bash we did last semester they are all going on a Catamaran trip tomorrow. Me and Tyson got on thanks to a kind new student!
-Typing these posts with my macbook again is like 100x easier. I was without it for half of last semester. Its nice to be back, although I have yet to deicide which computer I want to use for classes..
-If you try to get to close to monkeys, they make a terrible sounds and attack.. Beware. I got a pretty cool picture so I think was worth it...
Cheers,
Mike
