Heyyy there!
Im happy to say that I finally have a minute to breath. I thankfully just finished the most stressful 4 weeks since I've gotten to the island. Block 2 semester has been tough and thats literally why 1/4 of my semester has gone by since I've written anything here. But Block 2 is in the past and the extra work the past 4 weeks has paid off! Im happy with the majority of my classes, and Im hoping that I can rest a little easer and with a little less stress to finish off the semester.
Its crazy to think that in a few short weeks I will be all done semester 2, and halfway done my time on the island! Its amazing how fast time has been going. As for updates, I don't even know where to start. Trying to remember things for the past 4 weeks isn't the easiest thing in the world. I guess Ill start with Student government stuff.
About three weeks ago, the SGA hosted a Med olympics for the students and the professors at UMHS! The entire week before was spent selling tickets and talking to classes in order to get everyone on board. In the past, Med olympics was never really a popular thing for people to attend, but this year they wanted to change that. It was a lot of fun even though the idea of missing a day of studying was pretty upsetting. In the end it was well worth it. A lot of people showed up and everyone has a great time. The other SGA related things would be the St. Pattys day party that we had last night. A little early to be celebrating St. Patricks day, but when the real day comes along nobody will be thinking about drinking green beers and partying their day away.. So better to celebrate a little early then not at all. Most of my night consisted of working for the SGA selling tickets at the door. So while it wasn't quite a party for me, it was still good to relax and not have to think about school and studying for once. It was a well deserved break for everyone.
With regards to things outside of school, I really don't have much to talk about. I think in 4 weeks I left my house and school maybe once. (minus the grocery store). It was a rather dark 4 weeks spent in study rooms and lecture halls, but I've come to accept that my life will consist of these things for the next little while. Its not all bad though. Most of the stuff we are learning is so interesting that it gives you the push you need sometimes.
Over the past 4 weeks there have been a couple extra lab sessions such as suture and IV labs, but I didn't get to attend any of them. I already did a suture lab last semester, and I was pretty comfortable with my IV skills. Hopefully I will get to attend some yet. Every Tuesday there is also advanced EKG labs that have been going on. I also haven't been able to attend any of them which Im super bummed about. Ive either been in SGA meetings or TA reviews etc, and the timing has never worked out. Im hoping that I will be able to get to a few of those in the next little bit as well.
That about it for now.. Il try to have bit more of an interesting life for the next couple blogs, as hearing about me studying isn't very exciting.. Ill see what I can do:) All I know is that I'm really looking forward to finishing up this semester. Going into it I knew that it was going to be one of the tougher ones, not because of course content, but because of my interest level in the topics and the fact that Im taking 5 hard courses. Next semester all the classes are hard, but Im only taking 4. In addition to that, I also am interested in all the courses next semester, so Im hoping that will make things a little more bearable. Until then, Ill keep keeping on.
Things Ive learned that past few weeks
- I try my best to get a good amount of sleep, at that means going to be at 11 or 12. What makes that frustrating is going to bed early and not being able to physically fall asleep until 3am. Time wasted, could be memorizing something that needs to be memorized.
- Ill be starting my hunt for a new roommate :( Tyson (my current roommate), is taking next semester off for some knee surgery and I will have to find someone to fill his spot.. Its going to be a sad day
- I was told by a professor that I should be completing about 13,000 practice questions before leaving the island.. I have a lot of work to do.
- Remember those bird trees I was talking about like wayy back? I was walking with a friend the other night past those trees and he were absolutely stunned when I told him all those white things were birds. For months he thought they were flowers!
- I miss winter and doing Canadian things that happen in the winter time.
-You start to get tired of fans when you come to the island. There are always fans. Everywhere. Always.
- I think my fridge is leaking. Twice today I had to mop my floor because of a rather large pool of water. Ill have to do some investigating tomorrow.
